Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to schools to support the learning of certain children. Schools receive additional funding for any pupils who have been eligible for free school meals during the last six years; pupils who are looked after by the local authority or who are in care, and for pupils from families where a parent serves in the armed forces. This money is known as the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG).
The following explanation of pupil premium funding is an extract from the Department for Education.
“This money is allocated to schools by the Department for Education in addition to main school funding. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.”
